On 8th November, as part of the Science Week of the UPV/EHU, the CAVIAR UPV/EHU research group organised a special co-creation workshop titled “Co-creating spaces for interaction” at TABAKALERA. This event, framed in the KALELAGUN project and funded by the Gipuzkoa Provincial Council and ADINBERRI, invited participants to reflect on and experiment with how to design more inclusive, vibrant, and diverse public spaces.
The workshop featured Olatz Irulegi Garmendia, Claudia Pennese, Miriam Varela Alonso, faculty and researchers from UPV/EHU, along with Asier Benko Querejeta, a student from UPV/EHU, and Ainhoa Becerra Sotelo, innovation manager at ADINBERRI.
Through this activity, participants explored innovative ways to mitigate unwanted loneliness and defined key guidelines for designing public spaces that help reduce the perception of isolation and encourage collective enjoyment. The design tool developed in the KALELAGUN project was used, which includes models of real public squares and a toolkit with actions, elements, and technologies applicable to the redesign of specific spaces.
The activity focused on co-designing a public space that promotes meaningful relationships and greater community vitality. Thanks to this interactive methodology, creative proposals were generated, offering practical solutions to the challenges faced by modern cities.
