ILUNE. Women’s Night-time Mobility in Gipuzkoa

This project is based on the recognition that the experience of the city at night is not the same for women and men. It aims to generate applied knowledge that enhances understanding of this reality and informs fairer, more inclusive and more effective solutions, strengthening women’s right to the city, particularly during night-time hours. ILUNE seeks to produce practical knowledge, engage key stakeholders, and contribute to transforming night-time mobility into a model that is more equitable, safer and more sustainable, with the potential to be transferred to other contexts.

The project is built on a structured process of collaborative and anticipatory governance, including listening sessions, co-creation workshops, evaluation and feedback activities, as well as developmental evaluation methods (qualitative methodologies) such as guided night-time walks. This process will gather women’s experiences, perceptions and needs while enabling the joint definition of intervention criteria and context-specific proposals.

The initiative brings together an alliance of academic, business and institutional partners, including the CAVIAR Research Group, RB3 Innovación Urbana Integrada S.L. and the regional development agency OARSOALDEA. It also actively involves organised civil society, particularly feminist organisations and women’s networks, such as Plazandreok and the Network of Women’s Houses promoted by the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa. This partnership ensures an interdisciplinary, multi-level and non-hierarchical approach, combining scientific rigour with practical applicability and knowledge transfer.
