During the week of 5th to 11th May, Rochapea has experienced a unique event with the creation of a second collaborative mural, this time on one of the walls of CP Rochapea. This initiative brought together students, teachers, and local residents in a one-of-a-kind experience of creativity and collective work.
In the spring of 2024, the first mural was created on the wall of the fronton at La Compasión Escolapios School, marking the start of a series of four murals that will come to life in Rochapea.
Student Participation: Rain, Colour, and Commitment
La Compasión Escolapios School was responsible for initiating the painting of this second mural at the start of the week. The following day, students from Patxi Larrainzar and Cardenal Ilundain schools eagerly continued the artistic work. Throughout the week, students from all three schools maintained their involvement and creativity, enriching each day with new contributions.
Although the rain posed a small obstacle in the first few days, it didn’t stop the students from continuing to contribute their ideas, colours, and energy to the mural.

Citizen Participation: The Neighbourhood Joins the Mural
On 9th May, it was the turn of the local residents, who were able to join the project and continue the work started by the students. People of all ages came forward to participate with enthusiasm, helping to complete the mural and leaving their mark on the Rochapea neighbourhood. From the outset, another painting session had been scheduled for 11th May, but it had to be cancelled due to rain.
A Mural that Unites, Inspires, and Adds Colour to Rochapea
This second mural has not only transformed the wall of a school but also the neighbourhood and the bond between its residents. It has been a week full of creativity, fun, and collaboration, demonstrating that art can be a powerful tool. Rochapea is beginning to fill with colour, and with it, happiness and a sense of pride among the locals.
Next Mural: CPEIP Cardenal Ilundain
The initiative does not stop here. At the end of May, the painting of the third mural will begin, this time on one of the walls of Cardenal Ilundain School. The community participation sessions are scheduled for 24th, 28th and 31st May: on Saturdays from 10:00 to 13:00, and on Wednesday from 16:30 to 18:30.
More information about the painting sessions can be found here.
