Artajona, a town in Navarra with 1,774 inhabitants, will be the epicentre of FOOD FOREST, an innovative European project aimed at promoting the sustainable production of food and environmental regeneration in urban areas. This initiative seeks to develop a viable business model for Food Forests (FF) as an ecological and sustainable alternative to traditional agricultural practices.
Project: food forest and permaculture
Food Forest is a project that promotes food forests, ecosystems designed to produce food sustainably by replicating natural processes. Unlike conventional farming, food forests encourage biodiversity, regenerate the soil, and apply the principles of permaculture. This form of ecological production not only contributes to healthier and more accessible food but also works to regenerate urban spaces and improve the quality of life for their inhabitants.
The project will drive legislative changes and foster institutional support for the implementation of food forests through a European network of community food forests (Community Food Forests, CFF). This network will be responsible for implementing educational programmes, collecting data, strengthening social cohesion, and addressing important environmental, social, and health challenges in urban areas across Europe.
Activities in Artajona
Throughout April, the community of Artajona will have the opportunity to participate in a series of talks, courses, and workshops on food forests and permaculture. These activities are designed to raise awareness and educate the local population on the benefits of this type of sustainable production and how they can contribute to the shift towards greater sustainability in their surroundings.
With the implementation of Food Forest in Artajona, an important step will be taken towards transforming urban environments into greener, more resilient, and self-sufficient spaces. This project presents a unique opportunity for the community to actively engage in the creation of a greener and more sustainable future.
