The Rochapea neighbourhood continues to promote community art with the launch of its final two collaborative murals, currently being developed on the façades of Patxi Larrainzar school and the Landare association (Association of Organic Food Consumers). These interventions are part of a participatory process that began in 2024 as part of the European project oPEN Lab, within which three murals have already been completed in different schools across the neighbourhood (La Compasión Escolapios, CP Rochapea and Cardenal Ilundain), consolidating an initiative that brings together creativity, community and social values.

Following the ideas workshop for the mural at Patxi Larrainzar school, held in November 2025, the key themes guiding its design were defined. One of the most significant moments came from a pupil’s proposal to give visibility to women, particularly those who continue to face inequalities in different parts of the world.

Building on this reflection, teachers, families and pupils worked together to establish the values of the mural, which will also be represented in several languages, reflecting the cultural diversity of the community.

On 12 March 2026, the design workshop took place, during which the initial proposal was developed collaboratively. Throughout the session, ideas were refined, colours were defined, and new elements were added to strengthen both the message and its connection to the surrounding environment. The active participation of pupils, with numerous creative contributions, was key to enriching the final design.

The process will continue with the mural for the Landare association, with the ideas workshop scheduled for 13 April, followed by the design workshop on 27 April. During this phase, work will begin on the first draft created by local artists, based on the narrative developed collectively.

Between May and June, the painting phase of both murals will begin, further consolidating the collaborative work carried out during the workshops.

As a closing milestone, an inauguration event is planned for June 2026 to showcase all the murals created in the neighbourhood. This gathering will highlight the collective effort and strengthen the sense of community that has guided the entire initiative. More information about this event will be shared soon.
