Academic background

Xabat Oregi Isasi, architect by the University of the Basque Country – UPV/EHU (2008), Master in Light Facades by the UPV/EHU (2009) and Master in Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in building and urban planning by the UPV/EHU (2012). He obtained an international doctorate with mention Cum Laude at the UPV/EHU in the field of application of the life-cycle methodology in processes of energy rehabilitation of buildings (2016). Highlight that his thesis won the first prize of the best PhD work of the iiSBE Panek Award in Sustainable Build Environment (2016).

Teaching experience

Xabat has been working as an assistant professor (assistant doctor) in the Department of Architecture of the UPV/EHU in the area of construction. Along with teaching activities in undergraduate and master programs, Xabat is also professor in several postgraduate programs such as the Master of Architecture in Light Façades or the Master in Public Housing. Currently, he is senior lecturer.

Research experience

He is currently principal investigator of 3 R+D+i projects funded by public calls (SUDOE, RETOS-MINECO and PUE) within the consolidated group of the UPV/EHU Quality of Life in Architecture-CAVIAR. He is also part of the research team of other projects such as a H2020 project, an Euskadi-Akitania project or other research contracts with companies and administration.

Regarding scientific dissemination, during the last 5 years Xabat has been speaker in 30 conferences and has published 17 articles in indexed journals (WoS), of which 4 have been published in first quarter indexed journals (Q1). His h-index is 6 according to WoS and 7 according to Scopus. His articles have been cited 101 times according to WoS and 130 times according to Scopus, reaching an average number of citations per year of 14.43 (WoS).

Professional experience

Between 2008 and 2012 he worked in an energy consultancy specialized in thermal and energy assessment of buildings (Aurea Consulting). Between 2012 and 2018 he worked as a researcher in the Energy and Environment Division of Tecnalia Research and Innovation research centre in the field of energy efficiency and life cycle analysis, highlighting his participation in regional, national and international research projects such as H2020, INNPACTO, SUDOE, Intelligent Energy Europe, POCTEFA or ETORGAI. Among these projects, it is worth mentioning his participation as technical coordinator of the projects: SUSREG – Stimulating Sustainable Regional Development by means of a Structured Process Approach (Intelligent Energy Europe); ESSAI URBAIN – software tool to help cities reduce energy use, greenhouse gas emissions (Poctefa); OPTEEEMAL – Optimised Energy Efficient Design Platform for Refurbishment at District Level (Horizon 2020); or PLANHEAT – Integrated tool for empowering public authorities in the development of sustainable plans for low carbon heating and cooling (Horizon 2020); where methodologies, platforms and tools were developed to optimize the energy rehabilitation process of buildings and districts.
