The fourteenth edition of the International Conference on Energy Efficiency and Sustainability in Architecture and Urbanism (EESAP) took place successfully on October 4th and 5th, 2023, at the Technical School of Architecture in Donostia-San Sebastián.

Under the theme “Care for the HABITAT/HABITAT for care”, EESAP 14 delved into exploring how we can protect and nurture our environment, from the urban scale to the building level, for the benefit of people’s quality of life. This dual focus poses fundamental questions: How do we take care of or what is needed to take care of this habitat? How should this habitat be for our care, and to guarantee the quality of life of people?

The event was inaugurated on Wednesday, October 4th, by Rufino Javier Hernández Minguillón, who set the stage for a day filled with enriching discussions and inspiring presentations. The morning session was brimming with presentations on topics related to the urban scale. Notable guest speakers who shared their knowledge and perspectives included María Ángeles Duran, Marta Rofín Serra and Sonia Freire Trigo. In the afternoon session, projects such as RISAU (CAVIAR – UPV/EHU), Santander Hábitat Futuro (Landlab) and “Diseño urbano saludable para los barrios de Euskadi – Plan de acción de salud de Zaramaga” (ABIO & GIAU+S – UPM) were presented.

The second day of EESAP 14 was dedicated to exploring topics related to the building scale. Distinguished guest speakers, including Guillermo Borragán Pedraz, Rafael Carlos Suárez Medina y Ángel Luis León, shared their expertise. In the afternoon session, projects such as “De la visión estratégica a la implicación de la comunidad” (CICLICA), “Experiencias reales de monitorización del confort en procesos de rehabilitación (Stechome) y oPEN Lab (CAVIAR – UPV/EHU) were presented.

With the conclusion of this edition, EESAP 14 reaffirms its commitment to inspire professionals, researchers, and students to continue promoting the care of the HABITAT while simultaneously ensuring the quality of life for people.

We eagerly look forward to future editions of EESAP!
